2.6.4 Self motivation to achieve a goal
- Simple goal formulation is not enough.
- It is not enough to formulate a goal to achieve it. When we say "My goal is to ....." or write it down in the better case, we conclude after some time that the goal is not achieved..... What is the reason? Sometimes it is because we have done nothing to achieve the goal, sometimes achieving the goal has been impeded by different events.
- Truly speaking, formulating a goal is not enough. A goal is well-set if it has been experienced with emotion, towards which we strive with all our heart and it attracts us. Every person has goals that have been easily achieved .... Here, we would like to provide a practical method whereby goals become alive, realistic and tempting and it is not possible to fail reaching them ...
- Elements of a good goal are as follows: direction, motivation and proof.
- Effective goal setting includes three components: 1) Direction. 2) Motivation. 3) Proof that a goal has been achieved. In practice, this means answers to the following three questions: 1) What do I want? 2) What will I get? (How will I benefit from the achieved goal?) 3) How do I know that I have reached the goal?
|
Direction |
What do you/ we want? |
|
Motivation |
What will be the benefit for you/ us? |
|
Proof |
How do you/ we know that you/ we have achieved the goal? |
- Task – setting an effective goal for oneself.
- Now we are inviting you to try this method in practice by setting one goal for yourself. It may be related with your work, family or simply be a personal goal that must be reached within a period of about three months.
- Formulate and write down one or two sentences as to the direction of the goal – "What do I want?"
- Write an answer to the motivation question: "What will I get?", "How will I benefit from the achieved goal?"
- Ask yourself "How will I benefit from reaching this goal (answer to the previous question)?"
- Keep asking until you get one and the same answer on three consecutive occasions to "How will I benefit from achieving this goal?"
- How do I know that I have achieved the goal? (see the next chapter)
