2.3.1 Time counting map – where the time is lost
- Aim: the time counting map will help to see where the time is lost.
- Time counting principles are as follows:
- Write down every switch of attention irrespective of its duration. For example, phone calls, unexpected visitors, meetings, leisurely but interesting activities etc.
- Write down the switch of attention as soon as it happens!
- At the outset, fill out the first three columns – time, activity and duration.
- Be concise and use abbreviations: (T – telephone, R – reading documents, V – visitors etc.).
- Begin time counting as soon as arriving at work and carry on until the end of the work day. If you take work home, continue also at home.
- Keep your time counting sheet in front of you every day.
- Count time for a week. Decide then whether to continue.
